Do we need to obtain a marriage license for our Bahamas wedding?
Yes, a Bahamas marriage license is required before your Bahamas wedding.
Can we get married the day we arrive in The Bahamas?
No, both parties must have resided in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas for not less than 24 hours prior to the date of the application. Both parties must produce evidence of the date of their arrival (i.e. immigration card, which you receive when you enter the Bahamas). If you would like your Bahamas wedding on a Saturday or Sunday, you should arrive in The Bahamas no later than Thursday.
What documentation will we need to provide?
A declaration certifying that you are not married must be sworn before a notary public or other person authorized to administer oaths in the Bahamas and such declaration must accompany the application for the Marriage Licence.

Identification: Valid passport (stamped by Bahamas Immigration to show date of entry into country) OR Valid driver’s license (with photo) plus certified copy of your birth certificate plus stamped card from Bahamas Immigration (you receive this when you enter The Bahamas).

If divorced, certified copy (with raised or color court seal) of the original divorce decree (this will be returned but will be kept by the Registrar General’s Office).

If widowed, death certificate of spouse.

Translations and certification of documents in English, if necessary.

If under 18 years of age, Affidavit of Parents’ Consent.
Is there a fee for our Bahamas marriage license?
Yes, there is a fee of $100 payable to the Registrar General’s Department, which must be paid before your Bahamas wedding.
Will our Bahamas marriage license be valid in our country?
Yes, the marriage license is a legal document issued by the Bahamas government.
Can we use a marriage license from our country?
No, only the Bahamian marriage license is legal here.
Can my pastor perform my Bahamas wedding ceremony?
No, however your Pastor may assist the local Pastor with the wedding ceremony.
Are blood tests required?
No, blood tests are not required
Can we apply for our Bahamas marriage license by mail?
No, both parties must be in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas at the time of the application.
Do we need to get our marriage license in Nassau?
No, before your wedding you can obtain a marriage license at the Commissioner’s office in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas.
Can we obtain our Bahamas marriage license on the weekend?
If you would like your wedding on a Saturday or Sunday, you should arrive in The Bahamas no later than Thursday and make your application during the working days of Thursday or Friday.
What is the minimum age to get married in The Bahamas?
The minimum age to marry in The Bahamas is 18. If either person is a minor — under 18 years of age — parental consent is required before your wedding.
